We have endeavoured to present a com- plet e c ata log ue of the silv er, c oppe r an d ba se m eta l co ina ges of the 19th Century, and to illustrate the principal or most interesting types. For many reasons gold coinages had to be omitted, and much descrip- tive matter was sacrificed in order to p resent actual pictur es of coins which are more useful to the average collector. The task of compiling the volume proved much greater than anticipated and as work progressed cer tain adjustm ents in the original p lan had to be made. INTRODUCTION This is pr obably the m ost extensively illustrated book on coins ever p ub- lished.
